The solo show I was scheduled to have this month was canceled. It will be rescheduled. The paintings exhibited in the Muse Gallery window are part of a series intended for the show.
Each one of the paintings was inspired by an original historic piece of art. I wasn’t interested in making a copy of the originals. Rather I wanted to convey admiration for the work, and the artist.
It was Winged Victory that started me on this path. I was having a reoccurring memory of a time I saw her in person and the feeling of awe I experienced. Everything about the statue is dynamic. She appears to be moving forward. Her gown she is delicate, the fabric light and flowing. The wind seems to be blowing from the front, and her gown billowing in back of her. Amazingly she is not a copy as many of these past treasures are. She is an original marble statue, created during the second century BC.
