Moths to Light, Madelaine Shellaby

MOTHS TO LIGHT is an installation of objects and paintings telling the (fictional) story of a man who developed an interest in the flight of birds, angels, and mythically, the flight of man.  His name is Jeremie Joseph and his art collection about flight constitutes the show of artist Madelaine Shellaby’s new work.

 

Shellaby has said of this installation: “Stories unravel as I work, hands on material, mind open to ideas as they flow from the process. I use a variety of mediums and connect them digitally into a single printed image. In this recent work, I bring the disparate elements back out of the print and put them together into an installation.” On view are Shellaby’s drawings, paintings, books, digital montages, ceramics, and kinetic art, all purported to be made by different artists and collected by one man.
