A thread of hair or fabric, a string of twine or strand of yarn all hold a story of and a connection to a person, an event and a place. Embraced in a thread brings attention to the stories and memories held across time and place. Following a thread is like following a map. Each story, each memory connects us one to another, bringing us perhaps to a place of understanding or empathy.
DeJeonge Reese and Lynda Grace Black work in mixed media with a concentration, respectively, in hair and twine. Exploring new techniques and mediums, in their first joint exhibition, they invite you to consider the profound ways we are deeply connected through the stories we all carry and the stories of those who went before us.
